Sports day, arguably one of the most anticipated and fun days of the year. The atmosphere WSO brought this year was amazing, countless amounts of students trying their absolute best during their events as well as being cheered on by their peers was a delight to see and be a part of. All the track and field events had an insane level of competition and made it so much more engaging to watch. The events were managed very well by the sports department as well as the Y12 BTEC sports team coming on board and helping out, ensuring all the track and field events go smoothly. Raj being DJ alongside Y9’s DJ Nick had great fun fueling the atmosphere with the latest and greatest tunes, bringing all the energy the students needed. Another good year of sports day here at WSO, and I cannot wait for the next

School sports days are events that all students look forward to. It was no different at our school Wellington Academy. As a school that focuses on all-round development of its students through academics, sports, extra-curricular activities and well-being, the Sports day is one of the highlights of the school calendar year.

This year the event included sporting competitions for students from Year 7 to Year 11. The objective of the day was not just to promote sports but for all students to have fun and get a chance to show their sporting talent.

The organizing and hosting for the event was done by the Year 12 and 13 students. They last participated in the event last year, so it was a great opportunity for them to be still part of the event, even though they couldn’t compete.

The excitement of the students was in the air as they looked forward to challenge their athletic instincts and compete to win the sporting awards and medals. They were representing the 4 houses -Emerald, Ruby, Onyx and Diamond. The events were conducted on the Rugby pitch which was large enough for all the events.

The games tested the agility, endurance, speed and reaction of the players. All the games were track and field events. Some of the games were 100m race, 200m race, 800m race, Javelin throw and shotput. Fun games like Dart throw, Beanbag ball game were also included and there was a lot of laughter around these games. Students had practised hard for this day and the competitions were tough and some quite close. The friends and classmates of the competing students cheered and encouraged them after all, a game is half won with audience support!

The Diamond house won the day with maximum sporting wins. For the winners, it was a day to be proud and take the medals home. While for the losers, they may have lost the game but their sporting spirit was intact and they are determined to win next time.

Everyone went home exhausted but happy and it was a day to be remembered. We now wait for Sports Day 2020.
