What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a tool readily available to all of us, it allows us to become aware and fully present to whatever we have going on. There is lots of research now showing that being mindful restructures your brain and helps you not get overwhelmed by all your daily stresses and hassles.

This is done through series of meditation, which develops the bringing of one’s attention to these present-day experiences.

What is meditation?

We reduce the impact of our senses and through this we get in touch with the minor impacts of the environment around us. By focusing on these small details, we expand our brains comprehension of sensations, emotions, and thoughts.

Through this we suspend our judgement and instead open ourselves for compassion towards everything around us.

The basics

Time – To be able to find moments at which you may practice mindfulness.

Observe – Pay attention to what’s around you without interacting.

No judgement – Take note of your judgements and then let them slide.

Return – Come back to the present moment and appreciate how you drifted.

Don’t wander – Come back from wandered thoughts.

How to meditate

Find comfort.

Bring attention to your legs positioning them in a balanced or flat resting posture.

Straighten your spine but not tightly.

Bring attention to your arms by resting them on your legs.

Relax your face.

Notice your breath.

Observe your mind wandering from your breath.

Don’t judge your wandering.

Finally, once finished, lift your gaze.
