Being the ‘most multicultural school in the UAE.’ - it is not a shock that International day is one of the most spectacular events of the school year. Parents and students of 103 nationalities gathered on 5th February 2020 to celebrate the diversity within our academy. The wide variety of different cuisines and traditional activities from each country made the event quite extraordinary. Both parents and students went to amazing lengths to showcase their cultural speciality to the enthralled crowd.

This is a tribute to our lovely Parent Ambassadors who have spent months in organising and coordinating this marvellous event. Our parent ambassador Mavra from Pakistan mentioned that this was a great method for young children to ‘learn about different cultures and increases tolerance with other countries.’ The whole experience was enriching from learning new recipes from the French parents to the mesmerising Jordanian dancing. Another parent Eli Baginsky from the Soviet Union claims that ‘the event is great because students can show their nationality and display the mixture of cultures in today’s world.’

Let us see what our intelligent student body has to say:

  • Our deputy Head Girl- Daniella Le Roux says International Day serves as a reminder for us students that we all come from different backgrounds. ‘It gives us an opportunity to understand each other’s heritage.’ She also gave us a glimpse into International Day 2021 where we may get the option to immerse ourselves in each other’s cultures with dance workshops and traditional games.

  • Our lovely girls from Year 5- Zoe from Kenya states that it’s important for us to learn about different cultures so we can learn to respect them. Mariam from Egypt so we understand the traditions in different cultures. Both girls were extremely excited to try the scrumptious food from the stalls!

When asked about the teaching environment, Ms Rebecca Lewis replied stating, ‘It’s incredible! I love turning up to a lesson and learning about the wealth of cultures and traditions that we can draw upon which makes our lessons and schools so special.’ Mr Gavin Baxter says that it’s important for the children to celebrate International Day as ‘it broadens their understanding the of the world’ which is fundamental in their developing years.

In a world of increasing globalization, it is essential for our school to celebrate the strength that lies within in our differences. Our campus became a beautiful blend of music, colour and food that are all intertwined seamlessly. International day has allowed students and teachers to form a symbiotic relationship where we can co-exist peacefully.
